The world’s number one Bridge player Geir Helgemo, has been given a one year ban after he was found guilty of doping.
In a bizarre move Norwegian, Helgemo was handed the ban after he tested positive for synthetic testosterone and a female fertility drug at a competition last year.
Although many within the sport have claimed that the drugs aren’t performance enhancing, Helgemo was given the ban as the World Bridge Federation is recognised by the International Olympic Committee, and therefore it must abide by World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) rules.
The Norwegian who represents Monaco in the sport, has also been stripped all titles and points he won on the series tour in 2018.
It is believed that Helgemo’s ban will expire in November 2019.
