Authorities in El Salvador have sadly confirmed that a 22 year old woman has died after being struck by lightning.
It is understood that Katherine Diaz, who was training for a qualifier in order to reach the Tokyo Olympic Games, sadly passed away after being struck by lightning on El Tunco beach.
According to local media reports Diaz was sadly killed after she entered the water on Friday.
Diaz had hoped to represent the country for the first time after the sport was introduced to the Tokyo Olympic Games.
