A Waterford woman has died following the collapse of a tree on her car in the midst of Storm Ophelia.
It is the first fatality since the storm entered our shores this morning, and there are many more feared.
Strict warnings remain in place for public safety. Businesses, schools and colleges are closed today. Bus services have also been cancelled. Uneccessary journeys are to be avoided.
The last storm of its kind in Ireland occurred in 1961, claiming 15 lives.
Warnings are to be taken seriously for this unprecedented weather attack.
