After getting into trouble in the River Tyne, a 13-year-old child is in serious condition and a 14-year-old boy has perished, reports Sky.

Following reports that two youngsters had been disoriented in the sea close to Ovingham, Northumberland, emergency personnel began a massive rescue operation yesterday afternoon.

Following his rescue from the river, Northumbria Police confirmed in a statement on Sunday morning that one of the boys, 13, is still “in a critical condition” at the hospital, reports Sky.

Then, while teams scrambled to locate the second youngster, a massive search that included the police, ambulance, fire, and mountain rescue services continued.

“Sadly, the 14-year-old’s body was later found in the water and he was pronounced dead at the scene,” police said, reports Sky.
