Former Fianna Fáil TD Bobby Aylward has died aged 67 from complications from an illness.
Mr Aylward was MP for Carlow-Kilkenny from 2007 to 2011 and from 2015 to 2020.
He was also a member and former chairman of Kilkenny County Council and a farmer.
Commenting on his death, Micheál Martin, President of the Taoiseach and Fianna Fáil, said he was “deeply saddened to learn of the death of my very good friend Bobby Aylward,” describing him as “a deeply committed public representative”.
According to RTE, Martin said Aylward was tireless in his efforts on behalf of his constituents.
“Bobby continued the strong Aylward tradition of hard work, delivery and representation for his constituents and gave a tremendous amount to the people of Carlow-Kilkenny over the years.”
