This Irish woman drowned after falling through ice on a frozen lake in America, and tributes have been made to her, reports The Mirror.
Born in Dublin, Emer Mezzetti was only 30 meters from safety when the tragedy occurred on Friday in the town of Atkinson, New Hampshire, around 40 km north of Boston.
Expert divers discovered the 56-year-old grandmother’s body on Sunday, reports The Mirror.
According to witnesses, Mrs. Mezzetti was wandering on the frozen lake, called the Big Island Pond, close to her Atkinson house when she slipped through the ice. She was heard yelling for assistance before she vanished beneath the water.
Services for emergencies conducted a thorough search for her on Friday, and on Sunday, her corpse was found, reports The Mirror.
According to New Hampshire State Police, Ms. Mezzetti broke through the ice on Friday at around 5:30 p.m. local time. Additionally, it is said that at about 10 a.m. on Sunday, divers from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department discovered her corpse.
Originally from Dublin, Mrs. Mezzetti immigrated to America at a young age. Prior to relocating to Atkinson, she resided in Newton, which is close to Boston, reports The Mirror.
She was employed by the municipal administration.
She’s a proud Irish woman, according to her daughter Shannon McNeil.
She said: “She was a beautiful and vivacious woman who loved her children…and her four grandchildren more than anything. She was a proud Irish immigrant, born in Dublin and raised in Newton, Massachusetts with her four siblings. Every single person who knew her light, loved her, and she brought life into every room she walked through. This world was lucky to have her light, ambition, and adventurous spirit, and we are absolutely broken over the loss of her,” reports The Mirror.
And another daughter, Devin, paid an emotional tribute to her on Monday on social media.
She wrote on her Facebook page: “Please, please, please be safe. My Mother would want all of you to be careful, I know that we are all thankful for everyone that tried their best to save her. Thank you to everyone that has reached out and showed us of how truly loved she is by all that have met her. She was the heart and soul of our family,” reports The Mirror.
