Tributes are flooding in for a Limerick vet who passed away in Paris after travelling to see the Ireland Rugby World Cup showdown with Scotland at the Stade de France.

Brian Ryan was a vet and senior partner at Mulcair Veterinary Clinic in Cappamore, Limerick and was described by the clinic as “highly regarded” in his field.

As well as having a “vast experience and knowledge” of horse and cow medicine, Brian loved his sports, particularly rugby, GAA and golf.

Speaking to the Limerick Leader, John Egan, local councillor for Cappamore Kilmallock, described Brian as an “excellent and meticulous vet”.

Brian was Cllr Egan’s vet for decades and they had a close interpersonal relationship.

He said: “When I heard the news the other morning I was totally shocked he was due to come to us this Wednesday morning to scan cows. The shock to me was unbelievable because he was an extremely fit person,” reports The Mirror.

“Two or three weeks ago I had a drink with him and we were talking about modern farming and modern veterinary practices. I used to get on very well with him both from a social and business point of view. If he came at night time to a case he would stay for a chat,” reports The Mirror.

The councillor emphasized Brian’s determination to bridge the gap between his clients’ concerns and their understanding of veterinary procedures.

“He put a lot of emphasis on young vets listening to farmers when they come into their yards and don’t think because they had a degree in veterinary medicine that the farmer knew nothing. Brian was interested in the farmer’s experience and knowledge of husbandry. He will be an awful loss to his wife and children and an awful loss to the community,” reports The Mirror.
