Ant McPartlin has said Father Dermott Donnelly was the “kindest, wisest man I knew” and will “never be forgotten” following his death at the age of 55.

Fr Dermott was a Catholic priest based in Newcastle and was the brother of McPartlin’s “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here” host, Declan Donnelly. It’s understood that he died in hospital on Friday after a brief illness.

46-yr-old McPartlin posted on Twitter: “Father Dermott, you were the kindest, wisest man I have ever known. Rest in peace my friend. You will never be forgotten.

“My thoughts, prayers and love go out to his wonderful family. The world has lost a special man. X A.”

He wrote on Twitter: “It breaks my heart to announce that my beloved brother, Father Dermott, @TweeterPriest, sadly passed away this afternoon.”

“We are all beyond devastated.”
