
A Co Wexford mother of three who unfortunately died on Christmas Day has received tributes, reports The Mirror.
On December 25, 2024, Olive Hickey (née O’Connor), of New Ross, passed away quietly at Waterford Regional Hospital’s The Oak Ward, surrounded by her devoted family.
Tributes have been pouring in for the well-liked mother of three, Olive, who was a cherished part of the neighbourhood, reports The Mirror.
After learning of Olive’s death, the New Ross rugby club cancelled its St Stephen’s Day events and sent their sympathies to the Hickey family.
“It is with great sadness that we are postponing all St Stephen’s Day activities at the club due to the devastating passing of Olive Hickey,” the club announced in a social media post. Our heartbroken sympathies and condolences go to John on the loss of his beloved wife, and Emma, Tom and Conor on the loss of their dear mother. We cannot express the sorrow in our hearts that we feel for all of Olive’s family and friends. May she rest in peace,” reports The Mirror.
Olive was active in several local groups and a passionate horseback rider and animal lover. Employees at Ballyrue Equestrian Centre paid homage to the gifted horseback rider, who was a frequent visitor and UCD graduate.
“It’s with a heavy heart that we share the devastating loss of our dearest friend Olive,” they wrote in a post shared on their Facebook page, reports The Mirror.
“Olive has been a massive part of our yard for the last number of years. Her drive, enthusiasm, passion and genuine strive to live every day to the absolute fullest was inspiring. She didn’t waste a second! But most importantly, her kindness and willingness to help all others at the drop of a hat. Nothing was ever too much,” reports The Mirror.
A heartfelt memorial to Olive was posted online, with staff members calling her ‘one in a million’. Olive was also very active in the Wexford Pony Club in New Ross.
“It is with a very heavy heart that we share the devastating news that our fellow pony club parent and former secretary Olive passed away this morning,” they said, reports The Mirror.
“She was 1 in a million, and will be missed dreadfully in all our future pony club activities. Our thoughts and prayers are with John, Emma, Tom & Conor. Arrangements will follow in the coming days. We hope there are horses in heaven. Rest in peace dear friend” reports The Mirror.
