Heartfelt tributes have been shared for a “precious little girl” from Co Wexford who tragically died this week after a courageous fight with illness.

Laura Flynn, from Ballinlug in Killanne, died peacefully at her home on Monday, surrounded by her devoted family, reports The Mirror.

In October 2023, young Laura was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer that develops in soft tissue, particularly skeletal muscle, and begins in immature muscle cells.

Throughout her illness, Laura showed remarkable bravery, inspiring everyone fortunate enough to meet her during her heartbreakingly short life, reports The Mirror.

Irish children’s cancer charity Oscar’s Kids, which supports children in Ireland facing the most serious cancer diagnoses, led the tributes following news of Laura’s passing.

In an emotional message posted on social media, the charity said: “We are so deeply saddened to share that beautiful Laura, who was just 4 years old, died last night”, reports The Mirror.

“This tiny but mighty girl from Wexford lived bravely with cancer and was surrounded by love every moment from her adoring parents Olivia and Mick and her wider family”, reports The Mirror.

“We send them every ounce of love and strength we have now and we hold this beautiful girl in our hearts tonight”, reports The Mirror.

Childhood Cancer Ireland, a charity established and run by parents of children with cancer, also paid tribute to Laura in a statement which read: “It is just devastating to share another candle, for a beautiful little girl who gained her wings this week, Laura”, reports The Mirror.

“We send all our love to her heartbroken parents, grandparents and all of her family and community. They have lost their shining light and we hope that they will be wrapped in love and support as they prepare to say goodbye”, reports The Mirror.

“A precious little girl who will be forever loved, missed and remembered. Fly high Laura”, reports The Mirror.

“We are also thinking of the nurses, doctors and others who cared for Laura and her family”, reports The Mirror.

Laura’s funeral took place at St Anne’s Church in Rathnure on Thursday morning, followed by burial in Rathnure Cemetery.

Laura’s family have said that donations, if desired, may be made to the Jack and Jill Foundation, a children’s charity that provides support to children in Ireland with neurodevelopmental delay, reports The Mirror.
