
A cyclist who died in a tragic crash in Dublin yesterday has been identified as a Brazilian man who had moved to Ireland less than a month ago.
Tributes have been paid to 27-yr-old Johnny Santos, who was declared dead at the scene after a collision involving an electric bike and a cement truck, reports The Mirror.
The fatal incident occurred at the junction of Middle Abbey Street and O’Connell Street shortly before 1pm on Wednesday.
Members of the Brazilian community have taken to social media to honour the young man, who was originally from São Paulo, Brazil, while a fundraiser has been organised to return his body to his home country, reports The Mirror.

In a statement, gardaà said they “are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision at the junction of Middle Abbey Street and O’Connell Street, Dublin 1 this afternoon, Wednesday 1st April 2026.
“Shortly before 1pm, Gardaà and emergency services were alerted to the incident involving a truck and a cyclist. The male cyclist, aged in his 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The local coroner has been notified and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination. No other injuries were reported,” reports The Mirror.
They added: “Gardaà are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward. Road users and pedestrians with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were in the area of Middle Abbey Street and O’Connell Street, Dublin 1 between 12.30pm and 1.30pm today are asked to make this footage available to investigating GardaÃ. Anyone with information is asked to contact Store Street Garda Station on (01) 6668000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station. Investigations are ongoing,” reports The Mirror.
