A beloved teacher and well-liked GAA volunteer passed suddenly on Saturday after a brief illness, and tributes have been pouring in, reports The Mirror.
40-year-old Aisling McGivern oversaw Year 13 and Home Economics at St. Louis’ Grammar School in Kilkeel.
She was also a member of the Down County Public Relations and Marketing Committee and the PRO at St. Peter’s GAC Warrenpoint.
Warrenpoint and Down GAA both posted messages on social media, with St. Peter’s halting all club operations until Wednesday, after Aisling’s burial, reports The Mirror.
Warrenpoint stated that Aisling was a key player in many facets of club life, while Down GAA called her a “outstanding volunteer.”
“We are saddened to learn of the death of Aisling McGivern, a most valued member of our County Public Relations and Marketing Committee. Aisling was an outstanding volunteer, a person who made things happen and who, by her commitment to Down GAA, made a difference to the lives of many. Indeed only one week ago, Aisling was providing updates for people on X (Twitter) on the Bredagh v Burt Ulster Club Hurling Championship Tie. For this was Aisling, thinking of others and making sure that they were able to follow the game on social media, not just in County Down but in reaching across the globe.” the Down GAA statement read, reports The Mirror.
