According to a recent poll, incumbent Joe Biden is now well behind potential rival Donald Trump by significant proportions in a number of crucial states, precisely a year before the US presidential election, reports RTE.
The New York Times and Sienna College poll shows that the president is trailing by as much as 10 percentage points in five states that were critical in helping Mr. Biden upset Mr. Trump in the 2020 election.
The poll was conducted between October 22 and November 3, and over 70% of respondents stated that Joe Biden, who is 80 years old, is too old to be president, while just 19% indicated that Donald Trump, who is 77 years old, is too old.
Regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict, immigration, and the economy, respondents likewise stated that they supported Mr. Trump, reports RTE.
Voters in Wisconsin chose Joe Biden by two percentage points, while those in Nevada, Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, and Pennsylvania said they would vote for Mr. Trump over Mr. Biden by four to ten percentage points in the upcoming election.
According to the study, people still view Mr. Biden as more trustworthy when it comes to abortion, and they favoured the president over Mr. Trump when it comes to democracy. Mr. Trump is currently facing four criminal trials, including one related to allegations that he attempted to rig the 2020 election.
“President Biden’s campaign is hard at work reaching and mobilizing our diverse, winning coalition of voters one year out on the choice between our winning, popular agenda and MAGA Republicans’ unpopular extremism,” campaign spokesman Kevin Munoz added, reports RTE.
