On the penultimate day of a close and intense US presidential election campaign, bitter rivals Donald Trump and Kamala Harris have launched their final frantic campaign blitz, both targeting must-win Pennsylvania, reports RTE.

While Democrat Kamala Harris claimed that the “momentum” was in favour of her campaign to become America’s first female president, Republican Donald Trump has pledged a “landslide” in his quest for a spectacular comeback to the White House.

On the eve of Election Day, however, the polls paint a different picture: complete impasse in nationwide surveys as well as in the seven swing states where the outcome is anticipated to be determined, reports RTE.

The election, which is expected to have a significant impact on Middle Eastern crises and the confrontation between Russia and Ukraine, is being watched with great anticipation by the whole globe.

The most brutally contested battleground is now the focus of a race with dramatic twists, including two attempts to assassinate Donald Trump and Kamala Harris’ unexpected late arrival.

Ms. Harris will campaign throughout the day in Pennsylvania, a state known for its rust belt, before Lady Gaga performs at a massive rally in Philadelphia, reports RTE.

Prior visiting Michigan, Mr. Trump will visit North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

In Pittsburgh, an industrial metropolis, Mr. Trump and Ms. Harris will have opposing rallies, demonstrating how important Pennsylvania is to winning the presidency.

Under the US Electoral College system, which distributes power according to population, Pennsylvania is the single largest swing state prize, reports RTE.

With more than 78 million voters already casting ballots—roughly half of the total number cast in 2020—both parties claim they are heartened by the early turnout figures.

The close contest for the White House in 2024 illustrates how deeply divided the US is as it choose between two candidates whose ideologies couldn’t be more unlike, reports RTE.

In his quest for a second term, former President Trump has intensified his use of aggressive and sinister rhetoric, making him the first convicted criminal and the oldest major party candidate ever elected at 78.

Following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the contest in July, Vice President Harris, 60, has shot to the top of the Democratic ticket, reports RTE.
