Trump says he’ll end the Ukraine war if he wins the US Election

Before their meeting in New York, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump stood next to Volodymyr Zelensky, the leader of Ukraine, and declared that he will work with both Russia and Ukraine to end their war, reports RTE.

Mr. Zelensky stated to reporters at Trump Tower that he would want to talk with Mr. Trump about his “victory plan” for Ukraine.

While praising Mr. Zelensky, Mr. Trump also mentioned his strong rapport with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“We have a very good relationship (with Zelensky), and I also have a very good relationship, as you know, with President Putin,” Mr Trump said, reports RTE.

“And I think if we win, I think we’re going to get it resolved very quickly,” he added, referring to the 5 November US presidential election, reports RTE.

Previous reports from US media stated that the meeting at Trump Tower in New York would not take place because Mr. Trump took offence at the president of Ukraine’s remarks to The New Yorker magazine, stating that the Republican “doesn’t really know how to stop the war”.

It happens at the same time that US Vice President and Democratic contender Kamala Harris blasted the previous president for his “surrender” approach to Ukraine, reports RTE.

During a meeting at the White House, Mr. Zelensky presented a so-called “victory” plan to US President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris. Mr. Biden also announced a new military aid package worth over $8 billion for a struggling Ukraine.

Ms. Harris, who was standing with Mr. Zelensky by her side, stated that “some in my country would instead force Ukraine to give up large parts of its sovereign territory,” without specifically mentioning Mr. Trump.

“These proposals are the same of those of (President Vladimir) Putin. And let us be clear, they are not proposals for peace. Instead, they are proposals for surrender,” she said, referring to the Russian leader, reports RTE.
