Two men in serious condition in hospital following explosion at Co Clare factory

Two men are in serious condition in hospital tonight with serious burns following an industrial accident in Co Clare this afternoon.

It is understood that the horrific explosion occurred at approximately 3.15pm this afternoon at Thormac Engineering in the Shannon Industrial Estate. The company are known for providing a plastic injection moulding service. Gardai say the two men in question, were working at a machine when they were suddenly struck by molten plastic. Three units of the fire brigade from Shannon along with ambulances from Ennis and Limerick quickly rushed to the scene following reports of an explosion at the factory.

Gardaí have said the two men had suffered serious burns, and were quickly taken by ambulance to the nearby Irish Coast Guard search and rescue base at Shannon Airport. They were then  flown to the burns unit at Cork University Hospital.
