UK’s energy regulator warns of higher possibility of blackouts if coming winter is particularly cold

The UK’s energy regulator is warning about the heightened possibility of blackouts if the coming winter is particularly cold.

According to the National Grid’s Electricity System Operator (ESO), it might be necessary to impose up to 3h-long blackouts in some areas to prioritize heating.

The authority has said that this eventuality is ‘unlikely’, but is making contingency plans anyway.
