The social housing waiting list in New Zealand stands at 23,000.

The current New Zealand government has blamed the previous government for the social housing crisis saying the previous government sold off state housing and underinvested in social housing.

The prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, told local media in January the government would leave “no stone unturned” to fix the problem reports the Guardian.

New Zealand with 5.1 million population has a similar population to Ireland.

According to The Journal, Ireland’s social housing list stood at 61,880 in March this year.
