Uncle Ben’s rice to change name in order to avoid racial stereotypes

The manufacturers of Uncle Ben’s rice have confirmed that the brand name will be changed in order to avoid racial stereotypes.

In an announcement the company behind the brand Mars, said that they have decided to change the name after listening to associated and consumers.

The move comes as the brand faced criticism as it could be seen as being racist.

Although Mars say the face of the brand was modeled after a Chicago maitre d’ calleed Frank Brown, they say the brand will evolve in order to avoid stereotypes.

It is expected that the 70 year old brand will make the change next year and will go by the name Ben’s Original.

The company say they have yet to decide on an image for the relaunching of the brand but they say a decision is expected in the coming months.
