The United States has now officially withdrawn from a Cold War-era agreement with the former Soviet Union to limit the nations’ nuclear arsenals.
The move effectively means that both world powers can now build and stockpile as many nuclear weapons as they like, since the legal bind preventing this has now been torn apart.
The agreement was signed by former leaders Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev during a meeting at the White House in 1987.
The end of such agreement has now given rise to deep fears about a renewed arms race between the US, Russia, and the incumbent power, China.
US President Donald Trump has taken upon himself to undo as much good work done by his predecessors as possible. He recently removed the US from the Paris Climate Agreement, for instance, much to the consternation of most of the civilized world.
