BBC have confirmed that the corporations Radio 1 service will not play the original version of the iconic Christmas song Fairytale of New York.
In an announcement the British broadcaster said that it decided not to play the classic by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl as some listeners may be offended by some of its lyrics.
Explaining their decision the BBC said some younger listeners may be offended by the lyrics which contains derogatory terms of sexuality and gender.
The BBC say an alternative version with different lyrics sung by MacColl will be played instead.
However the original will still allowed to be played in BBC Radio 2, whilst BBC Radio 6 will be allowed to choose either version.
