Uproar in Donegal over “rat line” encouraging neighbours to inform gardai about illegal gatherings

There’s uproar in County Donegal over a so-called “rat line” setup by gardai so that neighbours and members of the public can squeal on their neighbours, friends and strangers if they’re conducting any sort of illegal gathering.

NPHET deny that they asked gardai to setup the “rat line” and say that no such phoneline is in operation in any other area of the country.

However, Dr Tony Holohan and his team won’t be welcome in Donegal anytime soon if social media users’ comment are anything to go by.

The good people of Donegal say that they’re doing just as much as any other county and that they’ve been given a bad name nationally as a result of the “rat line”. People are saying that Micheal Martin, Leo Varadkar, Stephen Donnelly and Tony Holohan need to “get a grip” and that they “should be ashamed of themselves” allowing such a “rat line” be setup.
