The deputy Attorney General of the United States, Rod Rosenstein, has announced that he will be resigning shortly after it was alleged by the New York Times that he offered to wear a wire so as to capture President Trump saying something that would pave the way for his impeachment Vox.com reported.

Rosenstein oversees the probe into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, that is directly led by Robert Muller.

Solicitor General Noel Francisco is likely to replace Rosenstein which could effectively mean an end to the Trump-Russia collusion probe as Francisco, being a Trump ally, may simply refuse Mullers requests for permission to move the investigation forward.

Rosenstein will meet with President Trump on Thursday and is likely to resign or be fired the UK Independent reports.
