The US has ordered all non-essential personnel to leave its embassy in Iraq immediately, due to mounting concerns about an armed conflict with neighboring Iran.
The warning, posted on the embassy’s website, recommends that staff should “leave by commercial transportation as soon as possible.”
A number of US military assets, including the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier group, have been deployed to the Gulf area in preparation for a possible strike.
