Vaccine Damage Redress Scheme for those who suffer extreme reactions from the vaccines still not in place in Ireland despite the Oireachtas Health Committee commitment to WHO in December 2020

Recent news from Ireland’s Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) reported adverse reactions to the Covid-19 vaccines in Ireland has surpassed 9470.

Question are now being asked by those who have been affected by Covid-19 vaccines as to why Ireland has not yet acted on the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendation to put a redress scheme in place.

Back in December 2020, Breakingnews.ie reported that a redress scheme for those who suffer extreme reactions to the Covid-19 vaccine was being developed.

The Oireachtas Health Committee heard back in December from Prof. Karina Butler, a consultant paediatrician and chair of the National Immunisation Advisory Committee who said told the committee that a redress scheme has been recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Prof. Butler said “A further challenge is to finalise the development of a national injury redress programme to provide support and care in the event that any vaccine recipient develops a serious vaccine reaction as recommended by the World Health Organisation”.

In a written Dail question in March ’21 to Fianna Fail’s Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly, Deputy Catherine Connolly as for an update on the Vaccine compensation scheme.

Minister Donnelly replied;

“Work to advance policy development in this regard is underway in my Department”.

However, millions of vaccines later, we are still waiting for details of a covid-19 vaccine redress scheme for those in the Irish community that have suffered and will suffer adverse effects from these vaccines.
