In the majority of wealthy nations, migration has long been a contentious political issue. Despite our own past, kindness, and restraint, Ireland is a typical Western democracy. Thus, at some point, this was certain to become apparent.
There will be migration flows as long as millions of people are prepared to put their lives in danger to flee conflict, prejudice, destitution, and joblessness back home in Europe or America.
For this reason, right-wing governments who have been brought to power in other nations and made promises to stop or restrict immigration, both legal and illegal, have mainly failed. In a few, it has even gone up, reports Independent.
