The Minister for Health Leo Varadkar believes people should shop around for the best health care premiums.
The Health Minister’s comments come after Insurance company Aviva health say they are to introduce an increase to premiums by an average of 5.5%, with some policies rising by 10%. The new hike in premiums is set to come into effect from July 1st.
Aviva say the rise in policies is due to an increase on the cost of claims.
Although Mr Varadkar acknowledged that the rise in premium does not apply to all policies, he did however welcome the extension of cover to the Beacon Hospital in Dublin. Mr Varadkar said people should do their research and find the best cover available at an affordable price, Mr Varadkar also said he believes that there is much better value in health insurance now than in recent years.
