Varadkar: Vaccine passport system is a matter of public health and not discrimination

The Tanaiste Leo Varadkar has said that he hopes people don’t see the reopening of indoor hospitality to fully vaccinated people as discrimination.

Speaking following the announcment of the new Covid-19 vaccine passport legislation, the Tanaiste said the new measures are being introduced as a public health measure that will only last a number of weeks.

Although Varadkar did admit that the system did create a distinction between those who are fully vaccinated and those who aren’t vaccinated at all, he said that thr new measures will only last a few weeks and urged younger people not to congregate and meet up in large groups.

He added that the vaccine portal for 18 to 34 year olds will open later this week and they will only have to wait a matter of weeks until they are fully vaccinated.
