Courts heard how school children said ‘we’re going to die’ when man brandished knife on Dublin’s Parnell Square

A man brandishing a knife in front of schoolchildren in Dublin’s Parnell Square reportedly told them, “we’re going to die,” according to court testimony, reports The Mirror.

In Dublin’s District Court, Oisín Peavoy (38), of Granby Row in Dublin 1, appeared before Judge Gerard Jones on charges of threatening a lady and her infant and waving a knife in front of two school buses in the city centre.

Judge Jones remanded Mr. Peavoy into jail after telling the court that he “is a danger to the public” and to children. Yesterday, Mr. Peavoy made his appearance in court and was accused of producing a knife on two different occasions in Dublin’s Parnell Square and Gardiner Street, reports The Mirror.

In addition, he faces two counts of acting abusively and threateningly on both streets.
Detective Garda Paul Gryphon of the Mountjoy Garda Station stated that the accused had stated, “I object,” and “I object and have evidence that this is not true,” in support of the arrest, charge, and caution.

Wearing a black t-shirt and pink pants, Mr Peavoy said to the judge that he wanted to represent himself in court. His lawyer informed the judge that Mr Peavoy had “a lot of difficulties” and that his family was there and that they wanted him to be represented. When Judge Jones questioned Detective Garda Gryphon about whether he thought the individual posed a risk to the public, he said, “Yes, judge,” reports The Mirror.
