Warm weather is spell on the way but likely not to be a heatwave

Ireland is set for a warm spell in the coming days, with temperatures expected to climb well above seasonal averages, though forecasters say conditions are unlikely to technically qualify as a heatwave.

Met Éireann has indicated that high pressure is building over the country, with dry and sunny conditions forecast to develop from the middle of next week and temperatures potentially reaching the low to mid-twenties in many areas, reports The Mirror.

A heatwave is officially defined in Ireland as five or more consecutive days where temperatures exceed 25 degrees Celsius.

While forecasters say temperatures could approach that threshold in some parts of the country, a prolonged stretch meeting the technical definition is not currently anticipated, reports The Mirror.

The warm spell is expected to be most pronounced across the midlands, east, and south of the country, where conditions are set to be drier and sunnier for longer periods, reports The Mirror.

However, Atlantic weather systems are likely to push cloud and some rainfall toward western and northwestern counties at times, meaning the warmest and driest conditions will not be evenly distributed across Ireland.

Met Éireann has urged the public to take sensible precautions during the warm period, including staying hydrated, applying sun protection, and checking in on elderly or vulnerable neighbours, reports The Mirror.
