The Chairman of the Institute of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists has said maternity services at Cork University Maternity Hospital are a horrendous example of a maternity unit.
A severe lack of investment at CUMH, one of the country’s largest maternity hospitals, is the main reason for the public outcry.
The hospital is in need of a new management structure, with a ring-fenced budget.
Almost 4,200 women are awaiting outpatient appointments and surgeries at the hospital, the longest waiting times for such appointments in the country.
