We received a number of reports that a Roma teenage gypsy girl is targeting the elderly and vulnerable on the DART between train stations once the doors shut.
It’s alleged that the girl is trying to sell packets of tissues to passengers, particularly on the way to Bray from Connolly station.
Claiming not to speak any english, the girl forceably pushes packets of tissues into old people’s faces and vulnerable looking people’s faces simply saying “BUY”.
One old lady is said to have replied with “no thank you” – and the teenager replied with “BUY NOW!” in an elevated voice. She then said “Buy and I will move on”.
One reader of The Liberal told us:
“It was shocking, the elderly lady had to take out her purse and give the girl a few euro. You could see she was very intimidated but quite honestly I was afraid to do anything myself as the Roma girl looked very aggressive”.
A middle aged man is said to have stepped in and roared a few expletives at the girl who scurred off the train at the next stop.
Gardai are said to be currently investigating a variation of this “tissue scam” and a source told us that they have advised everyone to be on the lookout for such criminals, especially warning and keeping an eye on elderly and vulnerable passengers. Please share this information with your friends to alert them to this scam.
