It has emerged this morning that about 500,000 eligible households have not applied for the €100 so-called “water conservation grant”.
The deadline was due to expire at midnight last night, but it has now been extended for two weeks in a desperate bid to get more people signed up.
In most cases, people are reportedly refusing to apply because they do not wish to be on the system.
