The Chief Medical officer Dr Tony Holohan has said that he is reasonably confident that a decision could be made on moving to the next stage in two weeks provided that case numbers stay low.
Speaking at the National Public Health Emergency Team briefing, Dr Holohan said that the public must play their part by adhering to social distancing measures and avoid any gatherings of any kind.
However the Chief Medical officer warned that anything untoward happens over the coming days it could lead to further spread of the virus.
Dr Holohan’s comments come as Ireland entered phase one of lifting Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.
