In anticipation of Storm Lilian’s arrival in Ireland later this evening, many weather advisories have been issued, reports RTE.

According to Met Éireann, eight counties will be under a Status Yellow rain warning tonight due to the possibility of isolated flooding and hazardous traffic conditions from the heavy rain.

The warning will be in force from 10 p.m. today until 4 a.m. tomorrow for the following counties: Clare, Galway, Roscommon, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, and Westmeath, reports RTE.

For Munster, Wexford, Wicklow, Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Kildare, and Dublin, there will be a separate Status Yellow wind warning in place from midnight until six in the morning tomorrow.

Unusually strong and gusty winds from the south to southwest that are projected to veer west to northwest are predicted by the forecaster, and there is still a chance of coastal flooding because of extremely high tides.

The winds may cause power outages, wave overtopping, coastal flooding, and fallen trees, reports RTE.

As Hurricane Ernesto’s remnants approached the west coast, a second Status Yellow wind and rain warning was withdrawn for Galway and Mayo at 2.30am.

The UK Met Office designated Lilian, the 12th named storm of the current storm season that ends on August 31.

Met Éireann and the Met Office initially announced storm names in 2015, and the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) followed suit in 2019, reports RTE.
