The Vietnamese government announced that on Wednesday all of 16 infected patients in the country, including a 73-year-old person were discharged from hospital and declared cured.

The country took immediate and sweeping measures to contain the spread of the virus.

As of Friday, the government said it has detected no new cases of Covid-19 but a village north of Hanoi remains under a 20-day lockdown.

Meanwhile, World Health Organization officials and health experts say the swift response crucial in containing virus in the country.

Despite this declaration strict measures will remain in place in the country until April, including the closer of schools and colleges.
