Two men were beaten up in Drogheda County Louth on Monday 13th July after a number of men allegedly got out of a van at approximately 11.30am and attacked them in broad daylight on West Street in the town. Well over a hundred people were looking on and more still gathered to view what was happening. West Street is the main street in Drogheda and it happened beside the historic Thosel building that houses the Drogheda Tourist Office.
“There was blood everywhere and the men got a really bad beating. People were screaming and running out of the way as it was beside a pedestrian crossing. I can’t believe that something like this can happen in the middle of the day in such a busy area,” said one terrified woman at the scene who had young children with her.
A large crowd gathered and looked on as reinforcements from the Gardai arrived at the scene.
“It t appears that there was an altercation between four males at the Tholsel just off West St, one was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, injuries not believed to be life threatening. One male( 36 years ) was arrested and taken to Drogheda Garda station,” it was stated by the Gardai.
