Wildlife association bombarded with penguin jumpers

A wildlife organisation in Australia has pleaded for supporters to stop knitting penguin jumpers. A significant amount of support was attracted last week when an online plea for Penguin jumpers went viral.

The penguin foundation said said it had been “overwhelmed with offers of little penguin jumpers from across the world” after global media picked up on the story.

While people began knitting jumpers which they believed would protect penguins from toxic oil spills, this was not the case.

“Please know that we do not urgently require little penguin jumpers for rehabilitation,” the foundation said in a post on its Facebook page.

This is not the first time that the organisation has experienced a jumper motivated misunderstand. The same issue has occurred in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

The Penguin Foundation have insisted that any excess supply of penguin jumpers will be distributed to other wildlife centres or sold to raise funds
