A mother has been accused with faking a diagnosis of cancer and using £45,000 for her treatment to help fund her lavish holidays and gambling addiction. 42-yr-old Nicole Elkabbass claimed her friend, Dr. Nick Morris had told her that she had ovarian cancer after doing a number of tests in his London office in 2017, Canterbury Crown Court was told. She then set up a GoFundMe page with her mother to raise funds for cancer drugs that are not available in the UK, the jury said.

The page contained a photo of Elkabbass lying on a hospital bed with prosecutors claiming this was when her gallbladder was removed. They claim she then used the money raised on the gofundme site to gamble, along with nearly £4,000 in tickets to Tottenham Hotspur, £320 in TK Maxx and the purchase of flights and hotels for trips to Barcelona and Rome, reports the Metro.

Elkabbass, a former Harrods fashion consultant, has denied two cases of fraud related to the money she received between February and August 2018. She told the court that she really believed that she was in the later stages of cancer and said her overseas trips were for medical treatment.

The trial continues.
