A man in the US state of Illinois has been charged with manslaughter after he killed his wife by closing the lid of a hot tub on top of her whilst she was bathing.
According to reports in the US, the man at the centre of the crime Eric Huska, 58, killed his wife Laura when he closed the lid of the hot tub leaving her inside.
It is believed that Mrs Huska who was drinking alcohol at the time, died as a result of drowning by entrapment.
Although it is not known whether or not Mr Huska who was also drinking alcohol at the time of the incident – intended to kill his wife he has since been charged with manslaughter.
Police investigating the incident say they arrested Mr Huska after they reviewed footage from outdoor security cameras.
In the footage Huska is seen initially trying to helping his wife out of the hot tub, but being unable to do so he is then seen pulling the lid ovet the tub a shirt time later.
Officers investigating the case say they were informed of the case a number of hours later when emergency services were called to the scene after Mr Huska discovered his wife’s body.
They also say that upon reviewing the footage, they have found that Mrs Huska was unable to exit the hot tub given her condition at the time, before adding that she would have been unable to lift the lid by herself in order to get out of the hot tub.
It is understood that Mr Huska could face up to 14 years in prison if he is found guilty of manslaughter.
