Following criticism and threats of murder, a Polish lady claiming to be Madeleine McCann says she regrets what she did, reports Metro.

After making the allegations, Julia Wendell made social media accounts under the handle @IamMadeleineMcCann and even made an appearance on the Dr. Phil talk show in the US.

However, a DNA test revealed that her statements were untrue. The findings indicated she was unrelated to Madeleine, who vanished in 2007 while on a family vacation in Portugal at the age of three.

In addition, Madeleine, who would be 20 years old today, is two years older than Julia.

In an interview with the BBC podcast, Julia, 22, stated that she “regrets” the whole situation and that she “never meant to hurt anyone – including the McCanns.”

She told the podcast: ‘I knew that there will be people who will not believe me or hate me, but I didn’t expect that I will get death threats, for example,” reports Metro.

‘I was trying to be strong even when people said, “you should die”, “you should be raped”, “you should be killed”, “you should be murdered”, “you shouldn’t exist in this world”, reports Metro.
