Two women have appeared in court facing charges of stalking the family of Madeleine McCann, reports Breaking News.

Julia Wandel, from Lubin in southwest Poland, was denied bail by a judge at Leicester Crown Court on Friday after appearing via video link.

Meanwhile, Karen Spragg, from Caerau in Cardiff, appeared at the city’s magistrates’ court, where she was granted bail. She is scheduled to appear alongside co-defendant Wandel at the crown court for a plea hearing on April 22nd, reports Breaking News.

Judge Timothy Spencer KC ruled that no details of Wandel’s 15-minute bail application could be made public.

Wandel, 23, who has previously claimed to be Madeleine McCann and is also known as Julia Wandelt, was arrested last month at Bristol Airport.

She is accused of stalking Kate, Gerry, Sean, and Amelie McCann between January 3rd, 2024, and February 15th, 2025, reports Breaking News.

It is alleged that she visited the McCann family home in Leicestershire on May 2nd and December 7th last year.

She is also accused of sending letters, calls, voicemails, and WhatsApp messages to Kate and Gerry McCann, as well as Instagram messages to Amelie and Sean McCann between January 3rd and December 29th, 2023, reports Breaking News.

Spragg was charged on Thursday with one count of stalking, causing serious alarm or distress, between May 3rd, 2024, and February 21st, 2025.

The indictment alleges that the 60-year-old made calls, sent letters, and visited the home of Kate and Gerry McCann.

At Leicester Magistrates’ Court, Spragg, dressed in a beige tracksuit and carrying a red bag, confirmed her name and address during a 10-minute hearing but did not enter a plea, reports Breaking News.

Chair of the bench, Elizabeth Needham, granted Spragg bail under conditions prohibiting her from contacting the McCanns, their children, and two family friends, entering Leicestershire except for court appearances, and requiring her to reside at her home address.

Mrs Needham informed Spragg: “Your case is going to the crown court and the date for that is April 22nd. You have heard the bail conditions,” reports Breaking News.

Madeleine McCann disappeared at the age of three from Praia da Luz in Portugal’s Algarve while on holiday with her family in 2007, and the case remains unsolved, reports Breaking News.
