Gardai in Letterkenny, co Donegal have reportedly set up a “hotline” so neighbours can inform on other neighbours attending “illegal gatherings”.
Apparently, the hotline has been set up due to high covid-19 numbers.
Donegal shares a busy border with Derry and anecdotal reports is that traffic has increased dramatically back and forth as the North have re-opened their economy and society ahead of the South.
Letterkenny-based Garda Gráinne Doherty revealed the special phone number has been set up at Letterkenny Garda station which will cover the entire county, reports the Irish Examiner.
Anybody who hears of illegal parties or gatherings is encouraged to contact the special informer hotline to report incidents. Garda Doherty said all calls will be “investigated”.
People do not have to leave their names or addresses and all calls will be treated in the strictest of confidence said Garda Doherty.
