Zoom is removing its 40 minute limit from its free version of its video conferencing software over Christmas to help families around the world connect safely amid the pandemic.

Typically, free accounts are limited to 40-minute calls that end abruptly at the cut-off time. Zoom has announced that these limits will be removed on certain days, including Christmas and New Years.

According to the Guardian, the company said: “As a token of appreciation to our users during an extraordinary time, we’re removing the 40-minute limit on free Zoom accounts for all meetings globally for several upcoming special occasions.

“Whether coming together on the final day of Hanukkah, celebrating Christmas, ringing in the new year or marking the last days of Kwanzaa, those connecting with friends and family won’t get cut short.”

Families seperated due to the regulations have welcomed the news, especially in the UK after health experts said that families must stay apart as much as possible over Christmas.
