A touching memorial plaque will be unveiled in California today to honour the students killed in the Berkeley tragedy

A memorial plaque has been unveiled in California to honour the students killed in the Berkeley tragedy which occurred in June 2015.

Irish students Eoghan Culligan, Niccolai Schuster, Lorcán Miller, Eimear Walsh and Olivia Burke, and Olivia’s Irish-American cousin Ashley Donohoe were all killed when an apartment balcony collapsed.

Seven other Irish students were also injured in the incident.

According to RTE, Family members of three of those who died are due to attend today’s plaque unveiling alongside Ireland’s Ambassador to the United States, Dan Mulhall and the Mayor of the City of Berkeley, Jesse Arreguin.
