Former Taoiseach and Fianna Fáil leader Bertie Ahern has claimed the prospect of a harder border between the North and South is a nightmare for Ireland.
Mr Ahern who is also suprised by the UK’s decision to leave the EU, said the overall impact of the decision is “enormous” – especially for the one sector in particular.
Mr Ahern explained: “About 45% of our food industry goes to the UK, very valued markets that’s been the case for decades.”
“They will take a big hit if there is tarrifs and that along with the currency problems, that makes it difficult.”
