An elderly woman is fighting for her life after being stabbed earlier today, January 1st 2017.
The incident took place on the Oranmore Road, Ballyfermot at around 9.30am.
Gardaí confirmed that the woman, aged in her 70’s, displayed stab wounds.
It is believed that the victim had answered a call to her home when the stabbing occured.
She was immediately taken to St James’s Hospital and her condition is described as “critical”.
No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.
