Brief respite in weather conditions before new cold spell arrives on Thursday

Today and tomorrow will provide a brief but much needed respite in the weather, before a new cold spell arrives on Tuesday.

The next 48 hours are forecast to be cold but relatively calm, with good sunny spells developing everywhere towards late afternoon. Temperatures will sink to below freezing tonight before picking up again tomorrow, reaching 12-13C in some areas.

Thursday will see a return to freezing weather, with widespread wintry showers expected nationwide.
