Charles Manson’s marriage cancelled (or at least, temporarily postponed)

The infamously notorious inmate Charles Manson’s wedded bliss may need to wait a little longer yet.

Manson’s bride-to-be, a 26 year old woman going by the name of “Star” (real name Afton Elaine Burton) obtained a marriage licence last year to wed Manson in the visiting room at Corcoran, the Californian prison where Manson will spend the rest of his days.

The license expires this Thursday, however, so the lovebirds will miss their chance to marry this weekend. They must now apply for a new licence, if the marriage is meant to happen.

“Star” left her home nine years ago and moved to California, where she has been living ever since, to be near Manson. She maintains several websites advocating for Manson’s innocence.

Shortly after obtaining the license, she announced that the nuptials were imminent: “Y’all can know that it’s true,” she had said back in November. “It’s going to happen.”

Mason has been denied parole 12 times, and his next hearing will take place in 2027. Manson, if still alive by then, will be in his 90s. Debra Tate, Sharon Tate’s sister, has been attending all of Manson’s parole hearings for the last 15 years.

Burton indicated that she would take Manson’s last name, if the marriage does go ahead. Which it will. Or it might. Who knows.
