In what can only be described as an incredibly emotional documentary on RTE One tonight which depicted the trials and tribulations the workers of the famous Dublin department store, Clerys went through when they were let go – with no notice last summer.
With people working there for up to 43 years, the documentary showed interviews of how people heard of their departure on a Friday evening with no notice whatsoever.
The beautiful department store was bought and sold and bought and sold again and eventually the strings were cut and the doors were closed. The workers were more friends than c0-workers and they spoke of their despair and sadness as to how such a monumental building could close so fast.
It’s believed that a planned European-style shopping centre is planned for the store with even a Luas stop planned for the centre of it. It’s allegedly being planned to replicate a major shopping centre in Vienna.
